James B. Jackson, 88, passed away Wednesday, September 26, at Regent Care Nursing Home in Waco. Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, at Bryan City Cemetery.




James was born February 25, 1924 in Bryan. He attended Baylor University on a football scholarship. While there, he joined the Naval Reserve and was transferred to Tulane University by the Navy in 1943 to continue playing football.




He went into the fleet in 1944 and overseas on a destroyer to the Pacific. After coming home and being discharged in 1946 he married and then went back to Baylor. After James finished school he went to work for Humble/Exxon and retired in 1982. During this time he lost his first wife to cancer in 1978. He met his second wife, Cleora, and married in 1981. They later moved from San Antonio where they lived for many years to Sugarland in 1998.




He is preceded in death by his first wife and parents.




Survivors include his wife, Cleora Jackson of Waco; daughters, Jo Beth Osborne of San Antonio, Carol Ford and husband, Jimbo, of Boerne; son, Bryan Jackson of Rockport; step-sons and step-daughters, Robert Martin and wife, Marilyn, of Eddy, Cheryle Miears and husband, Glenn, of Bryan, Marsha Shaunikas and husband, Mutt, of Charolette, N.C., Sandra Wolfarth of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren.
