Mary Elizabeth (Stepchinski) Morgan passed away peacefully October 2, 2012 at her daughter's home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.

Visitation and rosary will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Llyod James Funeral Home in Tyler, Texas. The funeral Mass will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tyler with Bishop-Elect Joe Strickland officiating. The Rite of Christian burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Brenham, Texas under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary Morgan was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Porter Morgan of Tyler; and her parents, John V. and Genevieve Stepchinski, of Brenham. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Johnnie Mihovil, of Galveston, Texas; a brother, Joe "Sonny" Stepchinsky, of Bellaire, Texas; and a son-in-law, Lanny George Wright, of College Station, Texas.

Mary Elizabeth Stepchinski, was born August 15, 1926 in Brenham. As a child Mary worked side by side with her father in the Stepchinski Meat Market in downtown Brenham. Mary graduated from Brenham High School, and following a life long dream, she earned a nursing degree from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Houston.

Upon Joe Porter's discharge from the army, he and Mary were married on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27 1947 in Brenham. Joe and Mary lived in Houston, Dallas and Greenville, Texas while Joe worked for the Folger's Coffee Company. In 1954 they found themselves transferred to Tyler where they made their home. Joe later went to work for Levis Strauss and Company. Retiring from Levis, Joe and Mary owned the Top Drawer Pant Co. with stores in Longview, Lufkin, Bryan and College Station, Texas.

Mrs. Morgan has been a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church since moving to Tyler in 1954. As a member of the Altar Society, her dedication for volunteer work in her Catholic community never went unnoticed as she cared for grieving families as they laid loved ones to rest. She worked at the Medical and Surgical Clinic in Tyler, now Trinity Mother Francis Clinic. She was an active member of the Pilot Club of Tyler and served as Club president from 1974-1975.

Mrs. Morgan is survived by her three daughters: Pamela Morgan Campbell and husband, Henry, of Tyler; Patricia Morgan Taylor and husband, Richard, of Sachse, Texas and Paula Morgan Wright of College Station, Texas; a sister-in-law Barabara Stepchinsky of Spring, Texas. Also surviving Mrs. Morgan are her nine grandchildren: Jennifer Campbell Morris and husband, Jim of Tyler; Casey Campbell Shepherd and husband, Andy, of Dallas, Texas; Cooper Taylor and fiance, Katie Perrin, of Sachse, Texas; Larsen Taylor of Sachse, Texas; Courtney Lewellen of College Station; Spencer Lewellen of Tyler; Adam Lewellen and wife, Sarah, of Tyler; David Wright and wife, Stacy, of Opelika, Ala.; and William Wright and wife, Faith, of College Station; as well as survived by her 11 great grandchildren; Morgan, Sean, Sam, Spencer, Destiny, Cross, Kaleigh, Cash, Addison, Jaycen and Logan, including many nieces and nephews.
