April 4, 1972 - November 5, 2012

Gregory Steven Spaw, 40, passed away tragically, and much too soon Monday, November 5, 2012.

Greg was born in Austin, Texas, on April 4, 1972 to Steven Neal Spaw and Patsy McDonald Spaw. When he was five, his family moved to Elgin, where he attended Elgin schools. Greg was the beloved little brother to two big brothers and a big sister. Greg graduated from Elgin High School, where he was an all-around athlete and was named to the All -State Baseball Team his senior year. After graduation, he attended Tarleton State University and Texas A&M University. He worked hard at everything he did and was most proud of his employment as a General Construction Superintendent.

Greg was married to the love of his life, Rebecca Torres, and together they created a happy and secure home for their 7 children. Greg was a devoted husband and father and his children provided much happiness in his life.

Greg not only loved baseball, he knew the game, and one of his greatest joys was coaching his sons and their teammates. Greg was the type of coach that every parent wants for their child - he taught them the skills of the game, discipline and teamwork, and he always built them up and never tore them down. A mistake or failure to perform as instructed was met with a rub on the head, a pat on the back, and words of encouragement on how to improve. Little Gregory wanted the world to know that his dad was the best baseball coach ever.

Greg was a man of faith, with a servant's heart. He brought joy to everyone he met and was a true blessing to all who knew him. He loved his Lord, and the family takes comfort in the knowledge that he is safe in the arms of Jesus.

Greg was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Odell McDonald; paternal grandparents, Maurine "Mimi" and Chester Spaw.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Rebecca "Becky" Spaw; his three sons, Tyler, Caleb, and Gregory; his four daughters, Taylor "Sissy," Trinity, Jackie, and Cadie; two grandchildren, Jonathon and Lillian; his two brothers, Scott and his wife Kim and Jeff and his wife Brittany; his only sister, Cindy and her husband Chad Godfrey; six nephews; eight nieces; aunts and uncles; and a host of cousins.

In lieu of flowers an account has been set up for the benefit of Greg Spaw's children in care of Prosperity Bank, P.O. Box 626, Elgin, TX 78621 or any Prosperity Bank location payable to Becky Spaw.

The family will receive guests at the Elgin Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, November 9th. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday November 10th at the Elgin Church of Christ, 703 N. Avenue C, Elgin, with John Poole and Tom Nuckels officiating.
