February 13, 1947 - November 16, 2012

Dick Harris Pewthers died Friday morning, November 16, 2012 from injuries sustained from a fall in February. Per his wishes, there will be no funeral; he will be buried in the Pewthers family plot in College Station. Patti is planning a celebration of his life there in the spring when the Hill Country is covered in bluebonnets.

Born February 13, 1947 in College Station, Dick was a true son of Texas. He graduated from A&M Consolidated High School, Sam Houston State University, and The University of Houston with a Masters degree in Education with Mid-Management Certification. He spent his entire teaching career in Pasadena ISD at Pasadena High School and Dobie High School. He retired to Lake Travis in 1999, where he spent the rest of his life doing exactly what he wanted to do every single day.

He is predeceased by his parents, Luevlan Gardner Pewthers Phillips and Charles Wallace Pewthers; his brother, Jennings "J" Howard Pewthers.

He is survived by his wife Patti; sons, Randy and wife Michelle, John-Gardner and wife, Kristi; grandsons, Brady, Ben, and William; granddaughter, Gwyneth, and cousin Tom Potter and wife, Weezie. Also dear friends, sister-in-law, Rhea Wineinger and husband Orville; mother-in-law, Joyce Easley; and brother-in-law, Steven Swanner and wife Renea. He also leaves legions of friends and brothers of the Kappa Alpha Order.

"Big" to family and friends, he was a big guy with a big voice and a bigger personality. He was a true Renaissance man who could build furniture, landscape anything, raise chickens, do calligraphy and stained glass, make beer, and barbeque. He was a blogger before blogging was cool, as he composed daily e-mails to friends and family on a myriad of topics that interested him. Dick loved nothing better than to get everyone he loved into his beloved "Stonehenge-North" home, to be entertained for a weekend or a month.
