James (Jimmy) Douglas Vinson was born on October 4, 1945, in Sikeston, Missouri and went to be with his Lord on December 2, 2012 surrounded by his family.

Jimmy became a part of the Madisonville community when he took the job of head basketball coach of Madisonville High School in 1974. Over the years, Jimmy held the positions of teacher, coach, business manager, and principal in several of the Madison County communities including Iola, Normangee, North Zulch and Madisonville. He ended his educational career in 2004 as superintendent of Madisonville Consolidated Independent School District. After retirement, Jimmy worked for Region 6 Educational Service Center where he worked to help numerous school districts. He also started his own business, DRV Educational Solutions. Jimmy spent his life trying to help others whether they were students, coworkers, friends or family. He truly made a difference in the lives of so many. He was a man with a servant's heart and was happiest when he was doing for others. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family whether he was sitting in the yard, playing games with his grandchildren or cooking for his family. Jimmy was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Madisonville, where he served on many committees and taught Sunday School through the years. Jimmy's strong faith was an important part of his life. He always said that God came first in everything. He made sure that his family knew that and lived his life that way. He was a great man and his smile and contagious laughter will be missed by many.
