Tion Jerome Hassen, 89, of Jonesboro, Ark., passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at St. Bernard's Medical Center. Tion was born on August 27, 1923 in Judsonia, Ark., to the late Sam Hassen and Kate Allen Hassen. He graduated from Bald Knob High School (1941) and went on to graduate from Michigan State University (1950). On May 22, 1941 he married Erma Dean Hoy in Bald Knob, Ark. She preceded him in death on August 27, 2009. He was also preceded in death by his son, Roger S. Hassen; two infant children; brothers, Allen Hassen and Ray Hassen; and sisters, Lucy Hornbeck, Freida Hassen and Virginia Hensley.




Tion was proud to serve his Country as Corporal in the 315 Depo Supply Unit of 14th Air Force Flying Tigers and drove Burma Road in 1944. After his tour of duty is when he went to Michigan State to become a Physical Education Coach. He taught school and coached high school football for 11 years. He was proud of several of his football players who made it to the professional leagues.




He leaves behind his daughter, Ramona Dodd and Darrell of Jonesboro, Ark.; sons, Allen Hassen and Roberta of Wasilla, Alaska, Jerome Congleton and Jaye of College Station, Texas, Harlan Hassen and Brenda of Jonesboro, Ark., and Wesley Hassen and Karina of Baton Rouge, La. Also surviving are his brothers, Thomas Hassen and Geneva of Cabot, Ark., Sam Hassen Jr. and Joyce of Bismark, Ark.; sisters, Zelma Thurgood and Tom of Carlisle, Ark., Geneva Moore of Bismark, Ark., and Janie Clark and Carthel of Hot Springs, Ark.; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a very special couple Dan and Evelyn Roberson.




Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gulley, Skylar Rowe, Todd Roberson, Clark McDaniel, Mike Chartier, and Eddie Perry.




Visitation will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Roller Farmers Union in Jonesboro, Ark., with Jerry Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Log Cemetery.
