Mildred was born in Bryan, Texas to William Marshall Griffin and Lillie Pearl Kemp Griffin on August 5, 1925, the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 1943. On September 30, 1943, she married the love of her life, Ben L. Mahler. Immediately after their marriage, she took a job at the Pentagon while Ben shipped out overseas to fight in WWII. Following the war, they returned to Bryan where she worked as operator at the Bryan Telephone office until she became a mother to her six children. In her later years, she returned to work as a secretary for Beard Transfer and Storage. At the age of 75, Mildred started working as a caregiver at Mother's Day Out programs, becoming a loving "grandmother" to so many children. She was a chartered and faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Bryan and the Neighborly Sunday School Class.

Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. All who knew Mildred will remember her for the love she shared so generously and unconditionally. She was kind to everyone and always said the one thing she could easily do was be a listener to anyone who needed an ear. Leading by example, she taught us all the importance of loving your neighbor.

Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ben L. Mahler; her parents William Marshall Griffin and Lillie Pearl Kemp Griffin; sisters, Claire Griffin, Nell Myers, Irene McGill, and Ruth McPherson; brothers, Bennie T. Griffin and James Griffin; and niece Peggy Jean Bradfield.
