November 6, 1937 – January 6, 2013

Robert Neil McCully, 75, of Bryan, passed peacefully from this world on Sunday, January 6, 2013. A time for family to receive friends will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Hillier Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 11, 2013 also at Hillier Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kathleene Card, officiating. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park.

Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Woodrow and Aline McCully, Neil and his younger brother Kent lived in many cities across the United States as their father, a career FBI Agent, worked in various Federal offices and capacities. In 1958, Neil married Elaine Lee Kempsky in Southern California and together they had three sons, Brett, Dan and Joel. He and the boys eventually moved to Houston, League City and finally Bryan while he worked for General Telephone/Verizon as a T&P Engineer.

Retiring in 1993 after 28 years, Neil enjoyed private time and family gatherings on his property in rural Brazos County and fishing trips with his brother and friends. In 1996, he finally purchased his dream Harley Davidson motorcycle and was a charter member of the Brazos de Dios Harley Owners Group Chapter. Recently, Neil followed his interests in geriatric care by serving as an ombudsman to review and report on nursing home competencies and performance in Brazos and surrounding counties.

Neil is survived by sons, Brett and wife, Carolyn McCully of College Station, Dan and wife, Michelle McCully of Austin and Joel and wife, Heather McCully of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Matthew, Krystle and husband, Antinie, Jessica, Andrew, Kate and husband, Derek and Chris and great-grandchildren, Skylar, Colby and Kamron. He also leaves behind his brother, Kent and wife, Anne McCully of Dallas.

A powerful example of quiet devotion to family, his physical presence will be missed while his devoted spirit guides and protects.

In keeping with his devotion, in lieu of flowers, Neil would ask that those seeking to honor his life take one of their own family members for a day of fishing.
