Colonel Paul Whitten Stephens, U.S. Air Force, Retired, age 96, of Bryan, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2013. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013 at Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 E. 29th Street, Bryan. Private interment will be held at Rest-Ever Memorial Park.




Paul was born on September 10, 1916 in Temple to Rufus and Lessie (Spell) Stephens. He was a graduate of Texas A&M University in 1938. In February 1939 he married the love of his life, Mollie Knowles and together they raised three daughters. Paul then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served for 30 years. Retiring as a Colonel, Paul was awarded numerous metals and honors during his military career. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Paul returned to College Station and worked at Texas A&M as civil engineer for 20 years. He was a member of B.S.A.G. (Been Shot At Group) and First United Methodist Church of Bryan.




He is preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Stephens; daughter, Jeanne Bowman; parents, Rufus and Lessie Stephens; brothers, James O. Stephens and Thomas S. Stephens and sister, Rosalie Fulton.




Paul is survived by his daughters, Frances Stephens of Puyallup, Wash., and Snow Redrock Stephens of Fort Collins, Colo.; six granddaughters, 17 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Roxie Sheppard of Worland, Wyoming.
