Elmer "Mithy" Monroe Sr., 76, of Bryan, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Brazos Valley Hospice.




Services are set for 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James E. Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Wheelock Cemetery.




Elmer Monroe was born on September 12, 1936 in Robertson County to Luther and Roxie Monroe. He was a Deacon at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Elmer enjoyed working he was a mechanic. He was employed at Hakco Precast for 40 years and later worked for Kieschink Construction.




He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Johnson, Lee Anne McGee; brothers, A.J. Monroe, James (Pratt) Monroe; and grandson, Raymond Monroe Jr.




Survivors include his wife, Bessie Monroe; sons and daughters- in-law, Elmer James Lockett Sr., Luther Monroe, Raymond and Carolyn Monroe, Elmer Monroe Jr. and Mae, Robert and Joyce Monroe, Tommy Jones; Godchild, Jerry and Danyale Walker; step-son, Charles Henry Cooks; daughters and sons-in-law, Delores Wilson, Mary Ann and Perry Hoskin,Sr., Joyce and Tony Childs, Rosalyn and Donald Williams; Patricia Jones; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harrison and Mary Ann Monroe; brother-in-law, William Joe Taylor of Lubbock; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruby and Milton Williams, Bonita and James Idlebird, Mildred Cooper; twenty-six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren.




The family extends thanks to Hospice Brazos Valley, to Supt. Maurice Green and to Brother Andre Malone.
