Hendrix Bartow Harper, Jr., 84, of Bryan, entered into rest on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at the College Station Medical Center. A graveside service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, January 14, at the Bright Light Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. A celebration of his life will be at the Bright Light Free Will Baptist Church immediately following the graveside service.




Mr. Harper was born August 18, 1928 in Houston, Texas, the son of Hendrix Bartow Harper and Bertie Belle (Johnson) Harper. After retiring from Texas A&M University, he and his wife opened Tonkawa Kennels. Mr. Harper was a pioneer breeder and promoter of American Staffordshire Terriers.




He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Denise Harper; wife, Anita (Norris) Harper; and a son-in-law, Alvin Halbrook.




Survivors include his children, Kathy Halbrook, Johnny Harper, Michael Harper and his wife Debra, and LaJuana Harper; sister, Jimmie Norris; six grandchildren, Jared Halbrook, Terah Halbrook, Dustin Pedretti, Shara Blair, David Harper and Audrey Harper; six great-grandchildren, Ryan Falk, Faith Pedretti, Abigail Pedretti, Isaac Blair, Diana Pedretti and Garrison Blair; and numerous nieces and nephews.




In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bright Light Free Will Baptist Church, 11200 State Highway 30, College Station, TX 77845.
