Floyd Clayton Sanders, 94, of Bryan, died on January 15, 2013. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Waldenbrook Estates Community Room, 2410 Memorial Dr. Bryan, Texas. Hillier Funeral Home is entrusted to his care.
Floyd was born on December 6, 1918 to Rollo and Lizzie (Irwin) Sanders in Bairdstown, Texas. In 1938 he moved to Houston, where he found work and joined a church. There he met Vivian Benson, whom he married on December 21, 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served three years during World War II. Upon discharge, he returned to Houston, where he and Vivian reared their four children.
A fitter-welder by trade, he spent more than 40 years in the steel fabrication industry, primarily as a working foreman. His employment took the family to Freeport and Alvin. When he retired in 1983, the couple moved to Bryan. He loved all types of fishing, especially with his sons. He and Vivian enjoyed traveling and made numerous trips throughout the US and to other parts of the world.
Floyd Sanders was preceded in death by his parents, Rollo Floyd and Lizzie Irwin Sanders, his brother, John Lewis Sanders and his son and daughter-in-law, Donald Lewis and Anne Little Sanders.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Vivian Benson Sanders; their children and families, Margaret Sanders and Charlotte Phillips, Ray and Kay Sanders and Allen and Rhonda Sanders; their grandchildren and families, Philip and April Wooldridge, Jenifer and Jim Summers, Heather and Gary Springer, Doniel and Beth Little, Lori and Ben Kennedy, Joe and Cortney Sanders, Cheryl Sanders, Jon and Jessica Sanders and 15 great-grandchildren.
