1926 – 2013




Dorris Jeanne Conger, 86, of Navasota, died Monday evening, January 28, 2013, at College Station Medical Center. A gathering of family and friends will be held Wednesday, January 30, 2013, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home.




A celebration of her life will is scheduled for 10:30 am Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the Madeley Chapel in Oakland Cemetery with interment following in the Falkenbury Family Plot.




Serving as pallbearers will be David Falkenbury, Scott Key, Justin Falkenbury, Tom Payne, Tommy Lee Ray, II and Taylor Sechelski.




Dorris was born February 26, 1926 in Greenville, Illinois to Ervin W. and Fern Sargent Kramer. She graduated from high school and married Winford M. Key who preceded her in death at the age of 36. Doris had moved to Florida and in 1948 came to the Lone Star State and lived in McAllen for a short time and later she and her second husband, Edward V. Conger, moved to Houston. While in Houston she spent time with KTRK – Channel 13 as well as Rice University as a receptionist. It was in 1982 after Edward died, that she moved to Navasota and worked for a number of years at the Navasota Medical Center, Nobles Funeral Chapel and later retired from Camp Allen where she worked in the gift shop.




Dorris, in her early years enjoyed bowling and loved to fish, collect all kinds of cards sent to her as well as donating to children's charities. One of her true passions was singing. She dreamed of singing professionally and had the chance to do that as a young woman, but she didn't want to move to New York. Dorris will be remembered by her gracious smile and warm heart she shared with everyone she met.




Dorris was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Winford M. Key and Edward V. Conger and a sister, Betty June Hampton.




Survivors include a daughter, Judith "Judy" Ann Falkenbury and husband Zac along with their son David and fiancée Karen Noland, all of Navasota; a son, Ervin D. Key and wife Linda of Navasota, along with his children, Marcie Payne and husband Tom and Scott Key and wife Jennifer and Linda's daughter, Kelly Gregory; great grandchildren, Caitlyn and Thomas Payne, Douglas Key and Justin Falkenbury and wife Courtney and Devyn Fallkenbury and a great great granddaughter, Braylenn Falkenbury as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a great number of friends.




For those that desire, the family has suggested memorials to Camp Allen, 18800 FM 362, Navasota, TX 77868.
