Melvin Hermann Wellmann, 79, of Washington, died Saturday evening, February 2, 2013, at Sheridan of Navasota. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2013, at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home of Navasota. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, February 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the funeral home. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Friedens Church of Washington, with Pastor Greg Felder officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.




Melvin was born May 24, 1933 in Washington to Fritz W. and Elenora Buck Wellmann. He graduated from Navasota High School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army. He married Dorothy Marie Schroeder on September 30, 1972 at Zion Lutheran Church in Anderson. A retired dairy farmer, Melvin was a life member of Friedens Church of Washington and was a member of the Sons of Hermann.




Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Marie; brother, Fritz Wellmann, Jr.; brothers-in-law, Victor Wayne, Albert Schroeder, and Donald Binford.




Survivors include sisters, Leona Lunsford and husband Billy and Minnette Grice and husband John, all of Navasota and Mildred Schroeder of Anderson; brother, Bernhard Wellmann of Washington; brother-in-law, Gerald Schroeder and wife Mary Catherine of Anderson; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Binford of Navasota and Lillian Wellmann of Washington, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relative and friends.




For those that desire, the family has requested memorials to Friedens Church of Washington, PO Box 306, Washington, TX 77880 or the Washington Volunteer Fire Department.
