Margaret Ruth (Petty) Adams, 90, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2012 at Sagecrest Care Center in San Angelo. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 4, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at Rest-Ever Memorial Park Cemetery.




Margaret Ruth (Petty) Adams was born to W.H. and Winnie (Cox) Petty on September 29, 1922 in Franklin, Texas. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1939. Following high school graduation she entered Jefferson Davis Hospital School of Nursing in Houston, Texas. She served in WWII with the 127th General Hospital Unit of the U.S. Army Nursing Corps in England and France. It was at Nancy that she nursed soldiers who had been wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. She was awarded two battle stars.




After being discharged she married her high school sweetheart, Clarence Adams. They were married for 67 years.




Margaret's only sibling, Lynn Allison Petty, died in 2002.




She is survived by her husband and two sons, Joseph Michael and wife, Terri and James Patrick and wife, Julie. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Kelly Adams Byerley and husband, Matthew Byerley; as well as a great-granddaughter, Elissa Claire Byerley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.




She was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan.
