Marilyn Anne Creasy Ivins, 84, passed away February 3, 2013 in Houston, Texas. She was born July 30, 1928 in Kingston, Pennsylvania to Dr. Carlton T. and Katheryn Creasy.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her husband, Maurice "Jack" H. Ivins, Jr., USMC Colonel, Retired; her daughter, Barbara; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Ivins and husband Dr. Donald Jackman, Lauren Ivins-McFarland and her husband Scott McFarland, and Dr. Alison Ivins; her granddaughters, Margaret Jackman, Elizabeth Jackman, Brynn McFarland, and Delaney McFarland; her nieces, Emily Dentler, Ann Wagner, and Jane Mentzer; 6 great nieces and nephews; and her beloved cats Missy and Silly.
Marilyn attended Wyoming Seminary Preparatory School, Dickinson College, and Drexel University and earned a Master's Degree in Library Science. She married Jack on July 8, 1954 and entered into the life of a military wife and mother. Marilyn resided in Pennsylvania, Virginia, New York, California, France, Germany, North Carolina, and Texas. Over the years she volunteered at and helped set up her children's school libraries. While in Texas, she worked in the Sterling Evans Library at Texas A&M University in Research and Development.
Marilyn was a lifelong learner, avid reader and gleeful traveler, open to new ideas and experiences. She enjoyed meeting new people and cherished her friends. Marilyn spent her last few years as a resident at Eagle's Trace Retirement community, where she helped develop and establish the residents' library.
A memorial service was held at Eagle's Trace Retirement Community on February 8, 2013. Burial will follow in Greencastle, Pennsylvania at a later date.
