Ofelia Garcia, 89, of Bryan, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. A time for family to receive friends will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, at Hillier Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 11, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, 1212 Lucky Street in Bryan. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Hillier Funeral Home is entrusted to her care.




Ofelia was born on April 28, 1923 to Domingo Rodriguez and Guadalupe (Garcia) Rodriguez in Monterrey, NL, Mexico. She married Ascencio Garcia in 1943 and together they raised 12 children. Ofelia taught school in Monterrey, Mexico. She moved to Bryan in 1979. Ofelia loved to garden and cook for everyone. She enjoyed playing dominos and bingo. Ofelia was a member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church.




She is preceded in death by her husband, Ascencio Garcia; her parents, Domingo and Guadalupe Rodriguez; and three brothers, Gilberto Rodriguez, Miguel Rodriguez and Ramiro Rodriguez.




Ofelia leaves behind five sons, Gonzalo Garcia and wife, Susana of Bryan, Jesus A Garcia and wife, Juanita of Virginia, Domingo Garcia of Bryan, Rolando Garcia and wife, Sally of Bryan and Martin Garcia of Massachusetts; 7 daughters, Guadalupe Gonzalez and husband, Alecio of Bryan, Dolores Carlos and husband, Andy of Bryan, Gloria Longoria and husband Geronimo of Bryan, Luisa Contreras and husband Alfredo of Bryan, Lisa Sanchez and husband Leo of Bryan, Inez Garcia and Eduardo F. of Killeen and Maria DelaRosa of Bryan; 40 grandchildren, 110 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Maria Rodriguez of College Station, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.




The family would like to thank Hospice Brazos Valley for their care during the last days of Ofelia's life.
