Dr. John S. Alvey, O.D., 91, of Fredericksburg, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013. Services are set for 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, at First Baptist Church in Fredericksburg, located at 1407 E. Main St.




John was born January 28, 1922 in Indiana, the son of Harvey and Sylvia Alvey. He married the love of his life, Rosalie Ruth Stine on July 11, 1943 and was married for 64 years. John was an avid runner, he ran over twenty marathons in a row and over 35,000 miles. He graduated from Wabash College and the Illinois College of Optometry. He also served in the U.S. Army. He practiced Optometry in Marion, Indiana until moving to Bryan, Texas in 1982. John was a member of the Mississinewa Chapter of Eastern Star, Indiana Free Masons, and First Baptist Church of Bryan.




He is preceded in death by his parents, wife; and infant son, Harvey Alvey.




Survivors include his daughter, Rosalie Janis (Alvey) Kahanek and husband, Earl; and Ruth, his cat.




Memorials may be made to the Hill Country SPCA.
