Edward Leo Batson, 87, went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 17, at the Madisonville St. Joseph Hospital.




Visitation was held Tuesday, February 19, at Cozart Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, at First Baptist Church Normangee. Burial will follow the services at Hopewell Cemetery of Normangee. Services have been entrusted to Cozart Funeral Home of Normangee.




Leo Batson was born September 8, 1925 in Normangee, Texas to his parents Anguish and Ruth (Carter) Batson. Leo was a lifelong resident of Normangee. He was an active board member of the Normangee Junior Livestock Show.




Leo was a community leader, always giving to the youth of Normangee. He was the owner of Batson Trucking Company and a lifelong rancher in the Normangee area. Leo Batson was married to Syble Denman in August 21, 1974.




Edward Leo Batson was preceded in death by his loving parents, Anguish and Ruth Batson; two daughters, Bonnie Hayes and Phyllis Harris; a son, Johnny "Bubba" Harris; and a granddaughter, Kylee Harris.




Survivors include his loving wife Syble Batson; two daughters, Linda Nickerson and husband Ronnie, and Janie Nixon and husband Michael; a son, Jerry Sturgeon and wife Melissa; and ten grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
