Helen Aycock, 85, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2013. A celebration of her life was held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 11, 2013 at the Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel, 1939 Sherwood Way, officiated by Reverend Oneal Westbrook. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.




Helen was born on December 2, 1927, to Cora and Morgan Ross in Sudan, Texas. She was the youngest of five children and grew up during the depression. Through these hard times she gained valuable knowledge on how to persevere and make do with what you have. Cooking and sewing were her trademarks.




Helen was a fearless and proud, momma who adored and bragged about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren up until her last days on earth.




She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Wendell Kunce, Bryan's father; and by her second husband, Ernest Aycock, Jr.




Helen is survived by her son, Bryan Kunce and his wife Barbara; daughter, Martha Anderson and husband Rick, Geoff Aycock and wife Tonja; son, John Aycock and wife Estel; grandchildren, Austin Kunce and wife Lauren, Abbi Kunce and husband Arik Scott, Ross Anderson, Whitney Anderson, Chance Aycock, Kristie Duhon and husband Steven, Shelby Aycock and wife Lauren; great-grandchildren, Daizy Scott, Ariklyn Scott Jr., Jeff Lyn Scott, Caiden and Addison Kunce, and Razzi Duhon.




The family gratefully acknowledges the love and compassionate care given to Helen by Enedina Rivera, her friend to the end, Rio Concho Terrace, the staff and doctors of Odyssey Hospice, especially Jamie, Mary and Delaine, along with special family members, Patricia West and Rebecca Price.




In Lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to Odyssey Hospice or Rio Concho Terrace.
