Concepcion "Concha" (Garcia) Marquez

Concepcion (Garcia) Marquez, 92, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 15, with her family by her side.




Visitation will be held on Monday, March 18, from 6:00- 9:00 pm with a rosary service at 7:00 pm at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 19, at Santa Teresa Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.




Concepcion was born on October 3, 1920, in Cameron, Texas. She met the love of her life, Juan, in Rosebud, Texas, and they were married on March 11, 1945. Concepcion gave birth to six children and devoted her life to their care. She moved to Bryan, Texas, with her family and became a member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church in 1952, where she remained until the time of her death. Concepcion was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She possessed great faith and loved the Lord with all her heart. She found the greatest joy in being surrounded by her family and the people she loved. Concepcion also took joy in growing flowers, nurturing her plants, and listening to music. She will be greatly missed, but it brings great comfort to know she is rejoicing with the Lord.




Concepcion is preceded in death by her parents, Ricardo and Herlinda (Mendez) Garcia; husband, Juan Marquez; brothers, Louis and Pete Garcia; sister, Angelita Garcia; son, Juan Marquez Jr.; and grandson, Jacob Salas.




She is survived by her children, Manuela Salas, Fred Marquez and wife Molly, Janie Galindo and husband Johnny, Gloria Garcia and husband Joe, Rudy Marquez and wife Teresa; and daughter in-law, Mary Marquez; brother, Silvano Garcia; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.




Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jonathan Galindo, Derrick Garcia, Fred Marquez Jr., Juan Marquez III, Rudy Marquez Jr., and Edward Salas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alex Salas, Christopher Marquez, Jeremy Galindo, David Marquez, and Aaron Garcia.
