Wayne Brubaker, 86, died on March 11, 2013 in Austin, Texas. A funeral Mass was held Friday, March 15, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Austin.
The son of Nina and Merle J. Brubaker, Wayne was born in Blackburn, Oklahoma on May 4, 1926. Wayne served in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers from 1944-1952. He met his wife, Barbara, in Okinawa, Japan. They married there in 1950.
A proud Sooner, Wayne graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1954 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. After obtaining his degree, Wayne and his family moved to Houma, Louisiana. He started work as a roustabout for Texaco. Wayne was a loyal employee at Texaco for 31 years. His job took him and his family across Louisiana, Texas and Bogota, Colombia.
After his retirement in 1985, Wayne and Barbara made their home in Hilltop Lakes, Texas. Devout Catholics, they were among the earliest members of St. Thomas More Parish in Hilltop Lakes, attending Mass at the local fire station. Wayne enjoyed painting and playing golf. A daily golfer, he had several holes in one to his credit.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; his daughters, Christine Brubaker of Austin, Karen Powell and husband Charles of Norman, Okla., Carol Brubaker of Houston, Mary Pawlowski and husband Brett of Charlotte, N.C., and Patricia Smith and husband Patrick of Austin; his grandchildren, Erin Williford and husband Jon, Nate and Sarah Smith, Tom and Matt Pawlowski; and great-grandchildren Jackson and Lily Williford. Also surviving is his brother, Bill Brubaker of Tallahassee, Fla., and several nieces and a nephew.
