Bertrand "Bert" James Arents, 96, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013. A memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Hillier Funeral Chapel in Bryan, Texas with full military honors.
Bert was born in Milford, CT, on November 9, 1916 to Bertrand Fraser and Ethel Mercer Arents. He went to school in Milford and joined the Army/Air Corp in 1941. He served as a bomber pilot in Europe during WWII, a fighter pilot in Korea, and was deputy commander of the Military Exchange in Vietnam. Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1971, he went on to earn his bachelor degree at University of Maryland and MBA in Business at Virginia Tech University; teaching Business and Marketing at Virginia Community College until 1984. Bert retired from teaching and moved to Florida, where he lived until 2004, before moving to April Sound in Conroe. He was a resident of St. Joseph Manor for the past four years.
Bert loved gardening and watching sports. He also loved golf, playing into his 90's.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Doris Kock and second wife, Ruby Arents.
He is survived by his four children, Lee Arents of Houston, Wendy Driskell and husband Donn of Johnson City, Kathy Black of Houston, and Jim Arents and wife Karen of College Station; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three step-children; and numerous other relatives.
