Rosa Contreras, 84, of Bryan, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. A time for family to receive friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at Hillier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 8, at Templo Nueva Vida, 107 San Jacinto, Bryan with Pastor Garcia officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.




Rosa was born on September 14, 1928, in San Benito, Texas, to Desiderio and Isabel (Escorsia) Martinez. In 1942 she married the love of her life, Juan Contreras, in Ojuelos Jalisco, Mexico and together, they raised 12 daughters. Rosa spent her life as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt. She was very active in her community. Rosa loved being able to help her neighbors, friends, and family and was very giving and supportive to all who knew her. She was also a devote servant of the Lord, and a member of Iglesia Nueva Vida church.




She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Contreras; daughter, Mary Garcia; granddaughter, Melinda Mireles; and sisters, Maria Martinez and Tomasita Flores.




Rosa is survived by her daughters, Cruz Hernandez and husband, Marselo of Bryan, Maria Elena Savala and husband, Tony of Carlos, Stella Rodriguez and husband, Jose of Bryan, Janie Morales and husband, Ernest of Nacogdoches, Josie Schwedler and husband, Peter of Houston, Carmen Sifuentez of Bryan, Rosa Munoz and husband, Rodney of Cedar Hill, Lupe Mader and husband, Jim of Bryan, Susie Contreras of Bryan, Teresa Ibarra and husband, Enrique of Bryan and Isabel Alfaro and husband, Jose of Millican; 37 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind sisters, Franciscia Hernandez of Rio Grande, Alicia Lopez of Mexico, Eliza Sanchez of Bryan, Carlota Contreras of Bryan and Margita Garza of Houston; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
