Gumesindo "Chindo" Cardenas, 86, of Bryan, has gone home to his Lord and Savior on April 5, 2013, surrounded by his family. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 8, 2013 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, 1212 Lucky, Bryan, TX 77803. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
Gumesindo "Chindo" was born January 13, 1927 in Gonzales, Texas, the son of Ernesto and Elvira (Almaguer) Cardenas. Known to his family as Tio Chindo, he had a heart of gold and was loved by all his family and will be dearly missed. Mr. Cardenas retired from Texas A&M after 42 years of service.
Gumesindo was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Herminia (Cardenas) Savala; his brothers, Jose, Ernesto, Domingo, and Daniel Cardenas; and his stepmother, Inez Cardenas.
Survivors include his special niece, Rosalinda DeLeon and her husband Jose; great nieces, Josie Torres and her husband Sergio, and Andrea DeLeon; nieces, Maria Gonzales and her husband Richard, and Ernestine S. Diaz; nephews, Louis Savala, Jr., Jesse Savala and his wife Yolanda, and Daniel Savala; special great-great nephews and nieces, Xavier, Jacob, and Abigail Torres, Jordan DeLeon, Genesis Bonilla; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his half sisters, Esther Alvarez, Victoria Puga, Elena Lira, Maria Valdez; half brothers, Alex Cardenas, and Armando Cardenas.
The DeLeon and Savala family wishes to "Thank You" to Janet and Carla of Hospice Brazos Valley for all the care and love they gave to Gumesindo, our uncle in his final days of life.
