Robert "Doc" Harben, 79, passed away April 6, 2013. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at Cox Funeral Home Benton with Chaplain Bryan Cooper officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at Steep Hollow Cemetery in Bryan. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at Cox Funeral Home in Amarillo, Texas.

Robert was born on August 28, 1933 in New York City to Nat J. Harben and Mattie Sue Logan. He moved to Fort Worth as a child where he graduated from Pascal High School. He then moved to Bryan, Texas to attend Texas A&M University. While attending A&M, Robert was on the track and rodeo teams. It was there that he married Frances Schultz in 1953. Robert received his Bachelor's Degree in Animal Husbandry and in Science before enlisting in the United States Army as a Lieutenant on August 16, 1957. He and Frances moved to Georgia where he was stationed at Fort Benning and then to Missouri where he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood. Robert was honorably discharged on February 15, 1958.

Upon his discharge, he moved to Fort Worth where he attended Texas Christian University. There, he received his BA Degrees in Geology. He and Frances then returned to Bryan where he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from A&M in 1964. "Doc" and Frances then moved to Dumas where he opened his first Veterinary Clinic. He then moved to Albuquerque, then Ruidoso where he took care of the racehorses at the racetracks for several years. They moved to Amarillo in 1989 where he opened River Road Veterinary Clinic and ran it until his retirement.

His parents, his sister, Natalie Murphy and her husband, Jimmy; son, Jeff Harben preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Harben of Amarillo; son, Logan Harben and wife Lita of Fort Worth; daughter, Becky Byers of Amarillo; brother, Jim Harben and wife Georgann of Midland; five grandchildren, Kristy Harben, Elizabeth Harben, Logan Harben, Lauren Harben and Rachel Byers and two great-grandchildren, Janie and Mia.
