Flora "Faye" (Wismer) Maas, 88, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital, in Bryan, Texas.
Faye was born on June 24, 1924 in Port Arthur, Texas. Her family later moved to Pasadena, Texas, where she graduated from Pasadena High School in 1941.
Faye attended Baylor University where she studied Music. Afterwards, Faye began a modeling career before going to work for Shell Oil Company as a Secretary/Receptionist where she met her husband Larry of 58 years while working at Shell Oil. Faye and Larry were married on June 18, 1954 in Pasadena, Texas. At that time Shell had a policy that married couples could not work together, so she began teaching piano in her home, which she did for over 20 years.
Faye enjoyed china painting, calligraphy and Bible study. She co-taught a Bible study at Waldenbrooke Estates in Bryan, Texas for many years. She had a strong faith in God and believed in the power of prayer.
She was a member of First Baptist Church College Station, Texas, Cornerstone Sunday School Class, a former member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 711 in Pasadena, Texas and member of the Shell Retirees Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Walker Maas, and her parents Edna Marie Parsley of Bryan, Texas and Noah Bedford Wismer of Jasper, Texas. Faye was raised in a Christian home by her Aunt and Uncle L.O. "Lonnie" and Pauline Allen of Pasadena, Texas.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Polly and Daniel Fields of Bryan, Texas, Susie and John Brockman of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jane and Charles Costello of Santee, S.C.; eight grandchildren, Michael Stengel, Eric and Cathy Fields, Christina and Scott Birtell, Matthew Costello, Mandy and Matthew Griffiths, and one great grandson Jonathan Alvarez. She is also survived by her close friend of over 60 years Mattie Ruth Jones of Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station, Texas, with Pastor Troy Allen presiding. Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael Stengel, Eric Fields, Matthew Griffiths and special friends Elvin Smith, Lynn Colson, and Walt Schuster. Honorary Pallbearers will be special friends Darrell Hollis, Bruce Miles, Tom Darling, Darrell Davis, Bob Sanders, Roy Smith, Jim Bruffett and Jim Anderson. Interment will follow at College Station Cemetery.
