Jose "Ascencion" Almanza, age 93 of Bryan passed away April 17, 2013. A time to visit with family will be Thursday, April 18, from 6-8 pm with a Rosary recited at 7:30 pm at Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 East 29th Street, Bryan. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, April 19, at 2 pm at Santa Teresa Catholic Church, 1212 Lucky Street, Bryan, with Msgr. John McCaffrey presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.




Ascencion was born August 15, 1919 in La Paz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico to Eduwickes Almanza and Hilaria Coronado. He moved to the Bryan area in 1957, where he started his own business, Almanza Concrete, and worked for many years in construction. In his retirement, Ascencion enjoyed spending time with his family.




He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Bruna Almanza. Ascension leaves behind five sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Mary Almanza, Jesse Almanza, Ascencion "Ace" and Shirley Almanza, Jr., and Erasmo and Gloria Almanza, all of Bryan, and Pedro and Sandra Almanza of San Antonio; five daughters and sons-in-law, Mercedes and Gilbert Adams, Josey and Tony Medina, Janie and Tony Hernandez, all of Bryan, Melinda and Frank Aguirre of Baton Rouge, LA, and Olga and Tony Sauseda of Hutto; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren.




The family wishes to express their gratitude to Thrive Home Health, especially Irma and Susie; Compassionate Care Hospice; and all of the nurses and doctors who cared so well for him in the Cardiac Unit at C.S. Med.
