Frances Laverne (Johnson) McGill, 80 passed away on April 15, 2013 in Victoria, Texas. She was born on September 19, 1932 in Hearne, Texas to Clyde G. and Frances C. Johnson.




Laverne grew up in Hearne, Texas. She graduated as the class Valedictorian from Hearne High School in 1950. She lived in Angleton, Texas for many years where she raised her three daughters. Laverne and her husband, H.A. "Mac" McGill moved to Rockport, Texas in the late 1980s. While in Rockport she was a member of the Rockport Church of Christ, Women's Club of Aransas County and the Aransas County Medical Services Women's Committee. Laverne liked playing bridge with her friends and enjoyed hosting bridge events in her home. She was an avid reader and was especially fond of mystery and suspense novels. Laverne lived the last few years in Victoria, Texas in the loving care of her sister, Mickey Tisue.




Laverne is survived by her sister Mickey and her husband Richard Tisue of Victoria, Texas; daughters, Melissa Mathis of Manvel, Texas, Marcella and her husband Eugene Fleischmann of Richmond, Texas and Bobette Mathis of Austin, Texas; granddaughters, Karla and her husband Jeremy Jay of San Diego, California and Lacey and her husband Kyle Helmke of Richmond, Texas; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Luke and Makayla Helmke of Richmond, Texas; nieces, Gayle and her husband Mark Foster of Carthage, Texas and Carol Taylor of Bandera, Texas; and nephews, Richard Tisue, Jr. of Victoria, Texas and Chris and wife Tiffany Tisue of Robinson, Texas.




Laverne was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Frances Johnson, brother Lenzy Johnson, sisters Marjorie Laree Johnson and Barbara Nell Johnson and her husband H.A. "Mac" McGill.




A private graveside service was held on April 18, 2013 at Norwood Cemetery in Hearne, Texas with arrangements provided by Heartfield-Ritter Funeral Home of Hearne, Texas.




In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Friends of Aransas County Public Library, 701 E. Mimosa, Rockport, Texas 78382.
