James "Cowboy" Swartz Jr.

James "Cowboy" Preston Swartz, Jr., 40, of Bryan, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2013. A time for visitation with the family will be Friday, April 26, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Hillier Funeral Home. The family will also receive friends on Saturday, April 27, at the funeral home from 11:00 – 2:00 pm, at which time there will be a procession to the First Christian Church, 901 Ennis, Bryan, for funeral services.




Cowboy was born on February 21, 1973, in Drexel Hill, PA. He made Texas his home in 1995 and it was a great fit for him. He owned and operated J. A. G. S Rescue & Recovery in Bryan since 2000, and he was very well known in the community for his expertise in wrecker operations. He was instrumental in coordinating local Tough Truck competitions, involved in demolition derbies, off-roading and enjoyed repairing cars. Cowboy had a passion for all types of music, and he used this as a form of expression to tell loved ones and friends how he felt about them.




He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Osie Swartz, and his uncle, Robert Narvell.




Left behind from his passing are his wife, Jennifer Swartz of Bryan; daughter, Ashley Jones and husband Aaron of Bryan; son, James "L. J." Swartz of Bryan; grandson, Aaron Dale Jones, Jr.; father, James Swartz, Sr. of New Castle, DE; sisters, Jodi and Pete Hallett, Bobbie Jean Richards, Crystal Swartz, all of New Castle, DE; brother, Daniel and Jessie Swartz of New Castle, DE; and numerous nieces and nephews.




Cowboy will be remembered for his big heart, generous nature, and his love for family and friends.




In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to benefit James' children, payable to: Karen Sysak, First Christian Church, 901 Ennis, Bryan, TX 77803, referencing "James Swartz Children".
