John Charles "J.C." Woods, Jr., 88 of Calvert, Texas passed away on Monday April 29, 2013 in Bryan, Texas.
He was born on February 10, 1925 in Waco, Texas to John Charles Woods, Sr. and Adeline Cruz Woods. He attended schools in Chilton and San Antonio and after graduation attended San Antonio Barber School. He married Mary Alice Daniel on February 1, 1948 in Marlin, Texas. Mr. Woods had been a resident of Calvert, Texas for the past 62 years previously living in Marlin. He was a self- employed barber and served as Robertson County Justice of Peace Precinct 1 for 25 years until his retirement in 1998.
Mr. Woods was a very active member of his community. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Calvert, Texas where he served as Deacon. He was also a member of the Pierce Lodge No. 144 Calvert, Texas and the Franklin Chapter No. 311 Order of the Eastern Star. He served as Past District Deputy and Past Worship Master of the Pierce Lodge and also served as Chaplain for many years. He served as Past Worthy Patron in the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 563 Calvert, Texas. Mr. Woods also served his community and school by serving on the Calvert City Council as well as the Calvert I.S.D. School Board.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mary Alice Woods of Calvert; daughter, Brenda and husband, Ronnie Brown of Dripping Springs; son, John Charles Woods, III and wife, Sandy, of Houston; three grandchildren, Jennifer Seales and husband, Michael, Travis Brown and wife, Kristin, and their sons, Gavin and Peyton, John Charles Wood, IV and wife Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Meaghen Seales and Garrett Seales; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Calvert, Texas. Ralph Powers and Louie Walston will officiate. A Masonic burial will follow in the Calvert City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 6-8 P.M. at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, Texas.
