DeWitt "Tall" Ellison, III
July 24, 1954 - May 3, 2013

DeWitt "Tall" Ellison III, of Whitney, Texas, passed away on May 3, 2013 in Bryan, Texas. Mr. Ellison was 58 years old. Survivors include his parents, Dewitt and Maurine Ellison of Aspermont, Texas; sister, Melany Hope of Aspermont; son and daughter-in-law, Justin DeWitt and Katy (Winn) Ellison; sons, Josh and Joel Ellison; and grandson, James DeWitt Ellison, all of College Station.

Tall was born on July 24, 1954 at the Camp Hanford Army hospital in Washington State. He moved with his parents to Aspermont in December of that year. Tall was a Boy Scout, and loved playing the trumpet. He graduated from Aspermont High School in 1972.

Tall attended Texas A&M University, where he majored in Agricultural Education, and was an active member of the Corps of Cadets. His junior year, he joined the Parson's Mounted Cavalry, and his senior year, as the Cavalry's first Cadet Major, he served as Commanding Officer. Tall graduated in the Centennial Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 1976.

After graduating, Tall lived in Aspermont where he and his former wife Gwynn (Endler), Class of '78, raised their three sons. He founded Tall Construction Company, providing oil and gas support services during the oil boom. Tall enjoyed participating in cutting horse competitions, and later participated in cowboy reenactments, even appearing on several billboards along Texas interstates as a frontier cowboy. In recent years, Tall's work in the oil business took him all over the state. He settled in Whitney, where his family loved to come for visits at the lake. One of his favorite places to be was on the patio at the Lighthouse restaurant, listening to live music and looking out over the water.

Tall will be remembered by his family for his great sense of humor, generosity, childlike spirit, wonderful entrepreneurial ideas, and fierce loyalty to his loved ones.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 9th, 1:30pm, at Swenson Baptist Church near Aspermont. For directions and more information, please call Justin Ellison at 979-589-4490. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brazos Valley Hospice, 502 W. 26th, Bryan, TX.
