Loraine E. Walton Gray, of Bryan, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013. Services are set for 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Shiloh Baptist Church in Bryan.




Loraine was born August 21, 1920, the fifth of eleven children born to Clinton Wiley and Channey (Davenport) Walton in the Wixon Community of Brazos County.




She came to Christ at an early age joining Macedonia Baptist Church in Wixon Creek. Upon moving to Bryan, she moved her membership to Shiloh Baptist Church. Loraine attended Bryan public schools and graduated from E.A. Kemp High School class of 1939. She then married Lem C. Grear, Sr. in 1939, to this union four children were born. She later married Ottis Gray. Loraine was employed at Lester's Smart Shop from the early 1950s until 1985. She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed cooking and making sure there was never a dull moment at family gatherings.




She is preceded in death by husband, Ottis Gray and her parents; three brothers, Alvin E. Walton, Sr, Marvin L Walton Sr. and Quinton W. Walton; six sisters, Cleo Walton Jefferson, Evelyn Walton Foley, Okaretta Walton Burrell, Maudeline Walton Sadberry, and Osborne Walton; a daughter, Elza Mae Grear Burton; and two grandchildren, Elza Mae Grear II and Sanford B. Grear.




She leaves behind to cherish her memories a son, Lem C. Grear Jr. & Elnora of Houston; two daughters, Lillian J Grear Hall and Willie B. of Alexandria, La., and Patsy Grear Jackson of Denton; four grandsons, Rev. D.R. Grear of Rockdale, Alonzo R Jackson & Angela of Converse, Texas, LaKeith V. Grear & Sonya of Houston, and Derrick G. Jackson & Maria of El Paso; a granddaughter, Gwendolyn D Jackson Bartelle & John; 16 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul L. Walton & Francis of Bryan; two sisters-in-law, Lovie Walton of Houston, and Josephine Gray of Dallas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
