Funeral Home: Hillier Funeral Home
July 7, 1949 – May 13, 2013
Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Davis Jones of Bryan died at her home on May 13, 2013 surrounded by her family. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 16, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan. A private graveside service will be held on Friday, May 17, at Conner Cemetery in Kennard, Texas.
Bette was born on July 7, 1949 in Frankfurt, Germany, and grew up on a farm in Crockett, Texas. Growing up, she enjoyed riding her horses, rescuing wild animals, helping her parents at the Western Auto store, and spending time at their lake house water skiing with her friends and listening to music. Bette graduated from Crockett High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin, receiving her Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing.
Terry was accepted into a residency program at the University of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, where he completed his studies in dermatology and Bette continued her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse. In 1978, Terry and Bette moved to Bryan to start a practice in Dermatology and shortly thereafter Bette started her true career as the mother to four boys. Her first, Jace Davis Jones was born on Mother's day 1979, followed by the birth of twin sons Jarrod Dean Jones and Justin Drew Jones in 1982. Her fourth son Jackson Dane Jones was born in 1987.
While raising her boys, Bette continued to act as a nurse and office manager for the medical practice of Dr. Jones. These efforts left little time for much else, but she relished her role as a mother and helpmate. Bette loved little children, dogs and cats, and she will be missed by her family. She was a lifelong avid Texas Longhorn fan, a status she particularly enjoyed while living in the heart of Aggieland.
Bette was preceded in death by her parents Adrian A. "A.A." Davis and Melba Davis; and her brother Adrian A. "Buddy" Davis, Jr., all of Crockett, Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Terry Jones of Bryan; sons, Jace Jones and his wife Julie of Victoria, Dean Jones of Bryan, Drew Jones of Bryan and fiancé Kara, and Jackson Jones and Katie of Fort Worth; two granddaughters, Emorie and Kenzie Jones; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Davis and niece and nephew, Lee and Hall Davis.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Bette's name to Hospice Brazos Valley, 502 W. 26th St., Bryan, TX 77803, www.hospicebrazosvalley.org or University of Texas School of Nursing, att: Andria Brannon, 1710 Red River, Austin, TX 78701.
