Evelyn Catherine (Johns) Mann, 87, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013, in Las Vegas, Nevada. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 29, from 2 pm until 3pm at the College Station Municipal Cemetery, 2530 Texas Avenue South, College Station, Texas.
A graveside memorial service will follow at 3pm assisted by Strickland Funeral Home of Somerville, Texas. Rev. David Mann will officiate the memorial service.
Pallbearers for the memorial service will be Monte Dunn, Ronnie Farrow, Bart Humphreys, Clay Johns, Gary Johns, and Stewart Kissner.
Evelyn was born March 16, 1926 at the home of her grandmother in Birdville, Texas to parents Robert Clinton and Katie Johns. She grew up in Tarrant County, Texas and graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas. She served as telephone operator during World War II.
On April 2, 1945 Evelyn married Pat Neff Mann in the parsonage of the pastor of First Baptist Church of Arlington. They were going to be married on April l, l945, but they wanted to insure that no one thought it was an April Fool's joke. She and Pat lived in the Bryan/College Station area for over 40 years. Evelyn was a homemaker, wife and loving mother. Pat preceded Evelyn in death March 24, 2007 after 62 years of marriage. Evelyn loved to sing and play the piano. She adored her three grandchildren and was blessed with three great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Evelyn was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ from an early age. She insisted on raising her children in the Baptist Church. She was supportive of her husband and children. Her grandchildren and all six great-grandchildren called her Nana.
Survivors include her son, James Curtis and wife Gaylan Mann of Alto, Georgia; her son, David Pat and wife Claudia Mann of Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth and husband Dr. Robert DeMartino of Henderson, Nevada; Catherine Miranda and her husband Justin Barkley of Mesa, Arizona; and James Jordan Mann of Cedar Park, Texas. Also surviving are her six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Noah, and Emily Barkley; Robert Adriana, and Matthew DeMartino; numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
