Celia Gebara Cerda, 61, of Bryan, passed away Thursday, evening, June 27, 2013 at her home. A Rosary will be recited at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan, 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 30, 2013 followed by visitation until 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 1, 2013 at Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan. Burial will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.
Celia was born June 15, 1952 to Sotero P. and Simona Gebara in Bryan, Texas. She was currently a homemaker, but was a past employee for 25 years at Verizon then MHMR. She was also a member of local League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) where she held the position of Vice President for a couple of years. As a young girl she was a member of the Hijas de Maria and a devoted member of Santa Teresa Catholic Church in Bryan. She loved God and was devoted to her Catholic Faith. Beginning with her baptism, communion, confirmation, marriage, and now she goes home to her beloved Santa Teresa Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Her home was always open to family, friends and friends of friends. You were added to the invited list the next time she had an event to share. Also, music, food and lots of dancing were always on her list of got to have (thanks Daddy aka "Suke")
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Epolito and Marciana Gomez, paternal grandparents Catarino and Suzanna Guevara, mother and father-in-law Felipe Sr. and Ofelia Cerda, and her grandsons' mother Carla L. Ybarra.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Felipe Cerda, Jr. of Bryan; one son, Phillip Anthony Cerda, Sr. and his wife Sonia of College Station; one daughter, Diana Cerda and her husband Freddie Rueda of Bryan; one brother, Sotero Juan Gebara, Sr. and his wife Tammy of Galloway, OH; four sisters, Mary Renteria, Antonia "Toni" Flores, Bertha and husband Ralph Alvarado, Martha and husband Jacoby Benavidez; five grandchildren, Freddie Cerda, Ashley Rueda, Marisol Hernandez, Phillip A. Cerda "PJ", Reyanna Cerda; four great-grandchildren, Alysa Robertson, Caleb Williams, Darius Henderson, Nathan Cerda; and numerous other family and friends.
The family would like to thank Hospice Brazos Valley, Dr. Tripathy and staff, and various church and family members who prayed for her.
