John "Johnnie" C. Rush passed away from this life with Christ on Thursday evening, July 11, 2013. Visitation will be Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin, Texas. Services will be held on Monday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at McCauley Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Louie Walston will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Johnnie was born on March 7, 1920 in Franklin, to John Rush and Annie Chapman Rush. The family farmed and ranched in the Owensville, Kosse, Rosebud, Wheelock and Gause communities. Johnnie's mother died at an early age and Johnnie took on the responsibility of caring for his siblings; Sarah Thomas, Thelma Brock and Bobbie Penney.

He married Melba "Dollie" Meadors on May 21, 1942 in Houston. They both worked in Houston and Johnnie continued his weekend ranching efforts until he could become a fulltime horse tradesman and cattle rancher in Robertson County. Johnnie loved his cows and horses and was grateful that he could live his dreams for many years. There was never a hungry animal at the Rush ranch.

Mr. Rush was preceded in death by his father, mother, his loving wife, Dollie, his siblings, his stepmother and step-siblings, Robert Earl Welch and Annie Mae Trinker.

Survivors include his five children; Peggy Scasta and husband Robert, Linda Horton and husband Dave, Pam Hernandez, Kelley Rush, Mollie Grace Rush and her mother, Leah Davis Rush and nieces, nephews and five grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank Ann McClellan, Lisa Watson and Mary Lutz for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hope Animal Rescue in Hearne, Texas, The Leukemia Society or to the charity of choice .
