Jean Griffith Murano, 97, of Bryan, passed away peacefully in her home on August 10, 2013. A time for family to receive friends will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17 at Hillier Funeral Home. Also, a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, at Hillier Funeral Home, 2301 East 29th Street, Bryan, Texas.
Jean was born on June 25, 1916 to Gwilym Oswald and Marion (Wright) Griffith. She attended the Royal Academy of Arts in London to study art and was a portrait painter and homemaker, moving from the UK to Long island, NY after WWII. She was a member of the Brazos Valley Community since 1998, having moved to Bryan from Massapequa, New York.
In New York, Jean Murano was an active member of the Peace Smith House whose mission is to peacefully address social and civil rights issues. An avid cat lover and knitter, Jean was an active member of a local knitting and crochet club, and has raised numerous felines over the years.
Mrs. Murano was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 45 years, WWII veteran and retired USPS letter carrier Harry Murano, who passed in December of 1989.
Jean is survived by two sons, Robert Murano and his wife Veronique of Fontainebleau, France, and Peter Murano and his wife Elsa of Bryan, Texas; sister Gwenda Pick of Sutton Coldfield, England; and numerous family and friends.
