Charles Martin Altimore of Bryan, formerly of Temple, was born August 12, 1929, in Hearne, Texas, to Charles Mack and Edith Faye Altimore. Charlie went to be with his precious Savior on August 18, 2013, six days after his birthday. He was 84. Charlie had one sister, Frances Faye Pierce who preceded him in death.

Charlie attended Hearne schools from first grade through twelve and graduated in 1946. He participated in all sports throughout high school and received numerous awards for his athletic achievements. After graduation from high school, at the age of seventeen, he served in Germany in Army Intelligence during the occupation at the end of WWII. While in Germany, he played on the Army football team.

After returning to the states, Charlie attended Kilgore Junior College where he played football and basketball. He was one of most respected kickers in the state, kicking the extra point that won the Little Rose Bowl, and was carried off the field as a hero. After completing his education at Kilgore, he enrolled at Baylor and continued his athletic ambitions in football and basketball. In 1950, at twenty-one years of age, Charlie's life took a different direction when he committed himself to Christ. He spent the remainder of his life serving in the music ministry as choir director in several large churches, and in music evangelism in small and rural churches. In addition to the music ministry, Charlie was a sound businessman and operated clothing stores throughout Texas.

In 1953 Charlie met a young pianist, Betty Nichols, at Five Points Baptist Church, just outside of Hearne, where they had both grown up. They married in 1953, and recently celebrated their 60th anniversary on June 6th. Charlie and Betty had three children; Dana Altimore and wife Vivian of Franklin, Texas, Leisa Barger and husband Ron of Dallas, Texas and Allyson Johnson and husband Matt of Fort Collins, Colorado.

Charlie is also survived by nine grandchildren; Drayton Altimore, Chase Altimore, Ashley Altimore Welch and husband Jason, Alyson Barger, Rob Barger, Barrett Barger, Alexa Johnson, Dakota Johnson, Aspen Johnson; great-granddaughter Corban Welch and nephew O.C. Pierce.
