James Raymond "Jim" Lenz, 75, passed away Friday, August 16, 2013 at his home in Kurten. Visitation will be Monday, August 19th from 6 P.M. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday August 20th at the funeral home with Charlie Ray and Chaplain Gary Roe officiating. Burial will follow at the Kurten Cemetery.
Jim was born March 17, 1938 in Kurten, Texas to Tillie Hahn and Reinhold Julius Lenz. He attended school in the Kurten and Bryan area until he had to leave school at a very young age to help his family by working, picking cotton and Dairy Farming. Later in life, Jim went to work as a Power Lineman, building Electrical distribution lines all over the United States.
He worked for numerous High Line Companies and through years of experience, he became a Foreman and Supervisor. He most recently was working for W.W. Nichols in Navasota. Jim loved his job and spent 51 years as a Power Lineman. Jim loved to farm and ranch.
He raised hogs and in fact, he loved his hogs. He liked to fish and hunt. He liked to be outside. Most of all, he loved his family. He was a longtime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bryan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lucille Sheffield, Gladys Moody, and Margie Weiman; one brother, Walter Moore Lenz; and granddaughter, Ashley Marie Lenz.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Susie Adams Lenz of Kurten, Texas; three sons and three daughters-in-law, James "Sonny" Lenz, Jr. and wife Stacy of Iola, Texas; Walter Brandon Lenz, Sr. and wife Nancy of Bryan, Texas; and Cody Ray Lenz and wife Amber of Kurten, Texas; two daughters, Brenda Spradling of Kurten and Amy Grace Lenz of Normangee; step-daughters, Carla Maddux and husband Ray of Galveston and Deana Lyons and husband Ron of North Zulch; two brothers, Edward Lenz and wife Sandra of Kurten and Bobby Lenz and wife Sharon of Bryan; sister Vivian Hauk of Bryan; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
