Joan "Janie" Julia Baranowski, 92, of Richards, died Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at College Station Medical Center. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 am Saturday, August 24, 2013, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with Msgr. Adam McClosky as the celebrant. The rite of committal will follow in St. Stanislaus Church Cemetery. A lunch reception will be served in the parish hall immediately following.




Janie was born May 20, 1921 in Plantersville to Anthony and Victoria Phillips Wetuski. She has spent the greatest part of her life in Grimes County and a resident of Richards since 1945. Her first job was with Meyers Saulty Furniture Co. in Houston and when WWII started she went to work for Cameron Iron Works. Janie went west to California and worked as a clerk for U.S. Navy and upon her return to Texas she worked for Texas Instruments in Houston making binoculars. She married John Pete Baranowski at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church August 30, 1943. After all her kids were in school she worked for Richards ISD as a cook in the cafeteria and retired after 20 years of service in 1982.




A longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Janie was a member of the Altar Society where she served numerous times as the president, and the Rosary Society. Janie also loved to quilt, making quilts for all her grandchildren and was a member of the "Krafty Krafters" making several different crafts that she would donate for the church bazaar. Janie loved working in her vegetable garden and flower beds and enjoyed a good game of 42.




Janie was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Philip Baranowski and his wife Elvia and Jimmy Baranowski and brothers and sisters, Harold and John David Wetuski, Dorothy Magna, Louise Gibowski and Anna Mae Shibest.




Survivors include her husband of nearly 70 years, Johnnie Baranowski of Richards, daughters, Pat Conrey and husband, Cliff, of Richards and Shirley Cook and husband, Morgan, of Brazos County; sisters, Theresa Stepanski of Tomball and Helen "Blondie" Caves of Stoneham; a brother Tom Wetuski and wife Kaky of Stoneham and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.




In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials in Janie's name to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, PO Box 210, Anderson, TX 77830-0210.
