Billie H. Gaines Sr., passed away at his home in Bryan, Texas, August 2, 2013. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 6, at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Interment followed at Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Tuesday before the service.




Mr. Gaines Billie was born December 29, 1921 to Sam Gaines and Ada (Scott) Gaines in Somerville. Billie married his wife of 33 years Patsy, on August 30, 1980. He served his country in WWII as a Corporal in the Air Force. Billie was a member of the Lee Scott Masonic Lodge No. 793, the Eastern Star of Somerville and Bryan, and the American Legion of Somerville.




He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, T.G. (Bunk) Gaines, Wallace Gaines, Sammie Gaines, George Gaines; sister, Adelle Klar; son, Billie Gaines, Jr.; Isabel York-Gaines, wife, sister-in-law, Leona Baetz and husband Charles.




Billie is survived by his wife, Patsy Joy Riley Gaines; daughter, Cynthia Gaines of Austin; step-daughter, Christina Mitchell and husband Craig of Bryan; daughter-in-law, Debbie Gaines of Bulverde, Texas; step-sons, Arthur Riley III and wife Linda of Huntsville, Alabama, Patrick Riley of Bryan, Texas; sisters, Ida Louise Vaughn of Conroe, Texas, Lottie Kiecke of Lake Jackson, Texas; sisters-in-law, JoEllen Sams of Perry, Oklahoma, Naomi York and Dick of Maine; brother, Tom Gaines and wife Jeannie of Angelton, Texas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Gaines of Somerville, Texas; brothers-in-law, Harry Gorham and wife Virginia of Broomfield, Colorado, Curtis Gorham of Denver, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.




Arrangements are under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell.
