Howard William Harold Carnitz, 95, of Bryan, died peacefully on Monday, September 2, 2013 at Crestview Retirement Community. Howard was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 26, 1917.
Howard and his late wife, Dorothy, were Texas residents since 1951 when they moved with their three daughters to Houston. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service, Howard and Dorothy moved to Bryan. They were residents of Waldenbrook Estates for many years and had many friends there.
Howard was a lifelong Christian and a World War II Army Veteran. His hobbies included collecting miniature clowns and sending greeting and birthday cards to his many friends.
Funeral services honoring Howard will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at Hillier Funeral Chapel, 2301 E. 29th St. in Bryan. Visitation with the family will precede the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Restever Mausoleum.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Dorothy; son-in-law, Hurmon Hendren; sister, Dorothy Michalik.
Howard leaves behind three daughters, Dorothy Wortmann and her husband John of St. Charles, MO, Darlene Hendren of Madison, MO, Joanne Bower and her husband Bob of Bryan, Texas; one sister, Lucille Zwintscher of Chicago, IL; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great great-grandchildren.
The family of Howard wishes to issue many thanks to the warm and compassionate nurses of Crestview Retirement Community and Hospice Brazos Valley for their outstanding care of Howard.
