H.T. "Turner" Ferrell

H.T. "Turner" Ferrell, 85, of Caldwell, passed away Monday, September 2, 2013. Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 6, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, with Rev. Mark Kremer officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery.




Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 5, at the funeral home.




He was born in the Hix Community of Burleson County December 21, 1927, son of William Oliver Ferrell and Lillie (Smith) Ferrell. He attended Hix School and Caldwell High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Japan and received an honorable discharge May 1948. He attended a football game in Caldwell where he met his wife Josephine.




They were married three years later, and recently celebrated 62 years of marriage. Turner was baptized as a teenager in Pretty Hole in the Hix Community. He reaffirmed his faith in Jesus Christ on July 7, 2013. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad July 10, 1985 after 34 years of service. He enjoyed his retirement, hunting, fishing, and loving his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was their "Poppie."




He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Milton E. Marek; brothers, Alton and Leonard Ferrell; sisters, Myrtle Covington and husband, Joe, Cleo Warren and husband, Connie.




Survivors include his wife, Josephine; daughter, Vicki Marek; sons, Stanley and wife, Mindie, Glenn and wife, Pat; grandchildren, Renee and Matt Crockett, James and Crystal Marek, Andrea Ferrell, Alison and Will Colley, Shelbi and Payton Ferrell; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Colley, Caden Marek, Charli Jo Crockett, Lexi Colley and Joshua Turner Marek.
