Helen J. Jahnes, 85, of Bryan, passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital in College Station. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 12, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.




Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, September 13, at the funeral home, with Reverend Bruce Wood of Aldersgate United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery.




Helen was born June 6, 1928 in Terrell, Texas to Eva Mae Brien and Homer Fredrick Jahnes. She grew up and attended school in Terrell during which time her mother passed away when she was 13 years old. At age 17, she moved to Dallas and started to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, which is now AT&T. She worked as a secretary and after 39 years of service, she retired and moved to Bryan. She loved pets, and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.




She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Eva Mae Jahnes; sisters, Lillian Henson, Bernice Christine Barnes, and Edith Jahnes; nephew, Herbert Barnes; and niece, Virginia Gilmore.




She is survived by one nephew, Robert Barnes and wife Johnnie Ruth of Bryan; one niece-in-law, Judy Barnes of Dallas; great-nieces, Lynne Koenning and husband Wayne, Jan Berny and husband Billy, and Rebecca Barnes; great-nephews, Phillip Gilmore and wife Denise, Paul Gilmore and wife Terri, Kirk Barnes and wife Beth; Kent Barnes, and Mark Barnes and wife Lenora; twenty great-great-nieces and nephews; and twelve great-great-great-nieces and nephews.




Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church in College Station or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
