Diane Kay (Schmitz) Carr, 57, passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 in Bryan, Texas, after six courageous years with glioblastoma brain cancer. She was born November 11, 1955 in Waterloo, Iowa to Maurice and Vernita Schmitz. She graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in Fairbank, IA in 1973. She graduated from Hawkeye Institute of Technology with an Associate degree in Accounting.
She is survived by her sons, Jordon, Travis, and Spencer; her granddaughter, Charlie and Charlie's mother, Meagan. Diane also leaves behind her parents, as well as siblings: Kathy (Jim) Vogel, Ken Schmitz, Don Schmitz, Russ (Lana) Schmitz, Lauri (Gary) Wehling, Gene (Deb) Schmitz, Cheryl (Steve Roth) Schmitz, and Jackie (Jeff) McFarlane and 38 nieces and nephews. Diane is preceded in death by her daughter, Christine Elizabeth Carr.
Diane's career spanned JC Penney, John Deere, Eagles Food Stores, and her most recent role as Assistant to the Chief of Staff at Texas A&M for a decade until 2007. She married Nick Kahlon in 1977; they were married six years. She married Steve Carr in 1984; they were married 22 years. Her greatest job, by far, was that of a mother. Her children were the light of her life and her daily joy! She adored them.
Diane was an eternal optimist, loyal, honest, adventurous, creative, and always artistic. She could be very trusting, but also savvy and resourceful. She never tired of trying new things, laughing, and doing something kind or mischievous for another person. Diane loved her family deeply, and each has touching and funny stories about her. She treasured her friends from decades past as well as those from Texas A&M, Church, the Luther Crew, and business ventures.
A rosary will be held at 5:30pm, followed by Visitation until 7:30pm on Monday, October 14, 2013, at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas, and a memorial mass will be at 10am, Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in College Station, Texas.
