Robert was a 1943 graduate of Reagan High School and served his country as a member of "The Greatest Generation" during WWII in the U.S. Marine Corp. Upon his return from the war he went to work as a distributor for the Houston Chronicle. It was there that he met Pat Carmena and they were married on April 29, 1949. He graduated from the University of Houston in 1951 and retired in 1986 after 39 years from the Houston Chronicle. In July of 1972 he and Pat built their dream home on the "7H Ranch" in Plantersville. With encouragement from his son, Grant, Robert graduated from the Texas Funeral Service Institute and became a funeral director in 1991 working with Grant at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home. He enjoyed his retirement working his cows and riding his tractor as well as traveling. In 2004 he achieved his goal of having visited all 50 states. A man of high moral standards, he believed in doing what was honest and right no matter how hard it might be or what others might think, a gift he instilled in each of his children.
