Funeral Home: Hillier Funeral Home
November 30, 1936 - December 1, 2013
Mary Ann Barnett, Age 77, of Bryan, Texas, went to be with our Lord on December 1, 2013. Mary Ann was born in Normangee, Texas on November 30th, 1936 to Pearl and Leonard Tharp. Mary Ann graduated from Bryan High School in 1954 and was married to Joe Barnett for 55 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, and daughter, Carol Lynn Barnett. Mary Ann first worked at the Five and Dime store in Bryan when she was a young girl and then at Feather Crest Farms for many years. Feather Crest Farms was where her mother (Pearl Tharp) and her mother-in-law (Lille Barnett) worked and introduced her to her husband, Joe Barnett. Her true calling was working as a senior insurance claims coordinator for Texas A&M University where she retired after 37 years of service.
Many people say there is nothing like a mother's love, and they are right. Our mother was a wonderful person who showed love to everyone she came in contact with. She was caring and beautiful inside and out. She loved life, her family, and her friends. Our mother taught us to do the same. She raised us to be strong just as she was. One of our favorite memories of our mother is when she would tell stories of when we were growing up and the pranks we played on each other. Then, we saw in her eyes the love she had for us. No matter how old you are, you always are your mother's baby. Tell those you love that you love them every chance you get. You don't know what God has in store next. In 2 Corinthians 4:16, "This is the reason we do not give up. Our human body is wearing out. But our spirits are getting stronger every day." We love you, Mom. Don't worry because we will see you again one day. Rest in Peace, our mother, our best friend, our beautiful angel. We know you are watching over us every day.
Mary is survived by four children and spouses: Kimberly and Avie Schonwald, Sam and Sharon Barnett, Cindy and Ben Sustar, Danny and Stephanie Barnett. She has 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Funeral arrangements have been made at Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan, Texas. Viewing will be held at Hillier on Tuesday, December 3rd from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be held at Steep Hollow Baptist church on Wednesday Dec 4th at 10am, with a graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
