The family will have a celebration of life in honor of Alberta on her 100th birthday, May 27, 2014.

Alberta was born on May 27, 1914 to Dr. Carl and Carrie (Hamill) Richter in Calexico, CA. She graduated from La Jolla High School in La Jolla, CA in 1932 and attended San Diego State University and continued at the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, MD.

Alberta was a founding member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and was involved with The Woman’s Club of Bryan. Her most memorable time was working with her husband on field work in American Indian Pre-history of the Southwest. Those summers in the Southwest were the greatest experiences in her and her husband’s lives. She loved to revisit these regions later in her life.

More than any other, she spent her time caring for her family. She also loved to paint, especially portraits.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 65 years, George Francis Carter; one grandson, Brennan Carter; one great-grandson, Christopher Hoysa; and one sister, Carrie Mary Wakefield of San Diego.

Alberta leaves behind her two sons, Robert and his wife Catherine of Baltimore and George of Bryan; one daughter, Anne of College Station; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
