March 18, 1929 – January 18, 2014

Jeanette L. (Ripple) Valigura, born March 18, 1929, went home to her Heavenly Father, Saturday, January 18, 2014 following a short illness. Jean lived most of her life in Caldwell, Texas and most recently in Bryan.

Services will be held Sat., Jan. 25 at 10:00 am in the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Caldwell. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 Fri., Jan. 24 also at the funeral home.

Jean was blessed with a healthy life filled with loving family and friends. Her loves were family, especially her two grandsons and two great-grandsons, and her irises.

Jean helped her husband Ray with his repair business in the 1960s before becoming a full-time homemaker. Later she became a wedding cake baker and decorator. For many years Ray tirelessly helped her load the van every weekend traveling across the Brazos Valley for weddings and anniversaries making friends along the way. They did enjoy the dinners and dancing that accompanied the events. Their early retirement years revolved around night fishing for crappie in Lake Somerville, crabbing on the Gulf Coast, and spending time with their grandsons. Their cabin at the coast was a good break from each other as they could go fishing in opposite directions. Bingo and scooping up deals at garage sales were Jean's favorite challenges.
In Heaven, she joins her parents Willie and Lydia Ripple, brothers Bill and Larry Ripple, sisters Earlene Kiel and Joyce Brinkman, and numerous friends.

Jean is survived by her husband of 65 years, Raymond Valigura of Bryan; daughter, Debby and husband, Leslie Swick of College Station; grandsons, Matthew Swick of College Station, and Brian Swick and wife Julie of Asheville, N.C. ; two precious great-grandsons, Colt and Knox Swick of Asheville, N.C.; her sister, Loretta Laffere and husband Marvin; also numerous nieces and nephews.

The family lovingly thanks the doctors and their staffs who patiently cared for Jean over the years: John J. Hall, MD; Garth Morgan, MD; Kennon D. Wigley, MD, and Monica Brown, DDS. Special thanks to the Bryan EMT responders, St. Joseph ER medical staff, and the Watercrest family.

A special thank you to Jean's most recent three BFF's and garage sale companions Garilee Cameron, Christl Keisler, Naomi Jones for their steadfast love and friendship.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Caldwell Brethren Church.
